Originally seen in the woven wool cloth of the Scottish Lowlands in the early 1800’s, this pattern has been reinvented time and time again by tailors and couturiers alike, from the woolen mills of Huddersfield and Glasgow to the runways of Paris and Milan.

From a technical standpoint, the traditional houndstooth check is made with alternating bands of four dark and four light threads in both wrap and weft/filling woven in a simple 2:2 twill, two over/two under the wrap , advancing one thread each pass.
